early spring, but is limited to only 350 entrants. The challenge of
the mountain calls racers back year after year, and intrigues
visitors from all around the world.

In 1985, a separate race for senior women racers was established with 54
women finishing the race. In 1996, the race filled with 300 runners for the

Junior's Race
The junior race is for racers aged 7-17. This race follows the same
trail to the finish as the senior race, but only goes half-way up the
summit. Juniors may race as individuals as well as on teams.
Junior's Team Race
There must be at least three teams of girls and three teams of boys for
awards to be presented. The top three teams of girls and the top three teams
of boys will receive awards. Scores are tabulated by adding the top finisher
from each team age category plus the next two highest finishers. Teams must
consist of 5-7 members of all girls or all boys. Each team MUST have at
least one member age 11 and under and two members ages 12-14.
Mini Marathon Race
The Mini Marathon Race is one of the July 4th "games" specifically geared to
children too young to participate in the Mount Marathon Junior Race
divisions. Sponsored by a local business and organized by Seward-area
volunteers, the game is a big hit every year. Participants in the mini
race do not need to pre-register, but eligibility is limited to children 6
and younger. Children must be able to run unaccompanied, as parents
are not allowed onto the race course.
